The computer science major of Chengdu University of Information Technology was founded in 1995, and School of Computer Science was established in 2008. The school has computer science and technology as a class 1 discipline of master program, computer technology as a master of engineering professional degree, agricultural information as a professional degree authorization, and computer application technology as a key subject of Sichuan province. The computer science and technology undergraduate major (including three directions: computer application, computer engineering and intelligence science and technology) is a state class 2 featured major, and is one of the first to participate in the Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program of the Ministry of Education. The digital media technology major participates in the Ministry of Education-Autodesk Inc. comprehensive professional reform program, and is one of the first in the Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program of Sichuan province. The school has three state engineering practice education centers, and was authorized to grant dual degrees in 2009.

The school has a crew of 62, with 57 full-time faculties. Within them, there are 22 professors and associate professors, 31 assistant professors, with 19 Ph.D., 31 masters, and 16 master advisors (including external advisors). Nearly 50% of the teachers have studied or worked overseas, and we have formed a large enough staff with appropriate demographic structure, and they are capable in both teaching and research.

With the optimization of its education mode, the school carried out a series of reform on classroom teaching experience, teacher-student relationship, teaching evaluation and teaching management. Results of the reform were rewarded class 2 teaching achievement awards at the province level twice. In the latest round of teaching awards, we received a class 3 award at the province level and 6 at the university level. Nearly 20 education-related papers were published on journals like Research on Higher Engineering Education, and 4 textbooks were printed. Two courses – Principles of Operation System and Java Programming Language – were selected as elite courses of the Sichuan province, and the prior was also selected as part of an elite resource sharing project.

All majors at the school started the new CDIO talent training program in 2009. The CDIO program focus on the Conceive-Design-Implement-Operate practice in real engineering environments, as it cultivates the students’ creativity, engineering technology and comprehensive competition abilities, especially their project organization, design, development, practice, and strong communication and coordination skills.

The school also pays special attention to the construction of research teams. We have formed five research teams, including graphics and image processing, cloud computing, intelligence engineering, embedded technology and applied cryptography, and their academic leaders and backbones were internally raised or brought in. With the leadership of the talented personnel, our research teams are active in scientific research and have achieved a series of landmark results. We constantly improve our ability to serve the society by actively participating in domestic and international academic exchange activities and through advances in the industry-college-research cooperation.

In the recent 5 years, our students have won 158 high-level awards on contests in different subjects, with 35 at the state level and 123 at the province level. Our graduates have strong professional knowledge, excellent ethics and teamwork abilities, so they are popular at the IT industry. Compliments from employers of our previous graduates include short training time, quick start and outstanding employees.

Based on the needs of the state strategy and enterprises, School of Computer Science focuses on the economy and social development of Sichuan province. It cultivates engineering and technical talent with computer application or digital media technology expertise, facing the information technology application area. Our goal is a training base of applied computer engineering technical talent that has impact and demonstration effect among nationwide provincial colleges and universities, with our features on information software systems and software/hardware development based on computer systems.
