The Engineering Research Center for Numerical Weather Computing was approved by Sichuan Department of Science and Technology in 2020. Focusing at the new generation of national numerical weather forecast system, the center promotes the modernization process of national meteorological industry, and provides core competence for the international intelligent weather industry. The center is positioned as a key component of national meteorological industry and new meteorological economy development. It provides a leading platform for the application and demonstration of the meteorological industry in western region.

Due to the progress of research on meteorological grid dynamics framework and AI technology applications, the center vigorously promotes breakthrough of key technologies in the field, including adaptive parameterization of atmospheric physical processes in high-precision numerical weather prediction and global multi-scale data assimilation. Applications have been carried out in multiple industries and various scenarios in the field of smart weather in digital economy, promoting the development of a diversified and personalized meteorological economic industry.
